Chen Yiming is a prominent Chinese-American painter known for his expertise in figure and nude oil painting. Born in Shanghai in 1951, he studied at the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts and the Shanghai Theatre Academy, where he specialized in oil painting. In 1981, he began teaching at the Shanghai Light Industry College before moving to the United States to further his artistic education at the Art Students League of New York.
His career took off with his first solo exhibition at the renowned Varnum Fine Arts Gallery in New York in 1987, showcasing a series of paintings inspired by the coastal fishing villages of Fujian, China. Over the years, Chen has held numerous exhibitions across North America, Europe, and Asia, establishing himself as a key figure in the “Shanghai School” of oil painting, which is characterized by its blend of traditional Chinese aesthetics and modern techniques.
Chen’s works often reflect a deep connection to his cultural roots while exploring contemporary themes. His paintings are celebrated for their delicate beauty and emotional depth, resonating with both Eastern and Western audiences. Many of his pieces are included in museum collections and private collections worldwide.
